Healing with Smiles – KeepSmiling Alliance promotes emotional encouragement and smiles of hope for individuals living with a life-threatening illness or at the end stages of life.
We believe that humour is infectious. When laughter is shared, it binds people together, increases happiness and creates hope.
To help us promote smiles, we created a mascot named “Buttercup”. Buttercup, our Healing Hippo, is a 10” plush hippopotamus that is packaged with an inspirational message. We have found that presenting Buttercup creates an instant smile.
We set up programs with Hospitals, Senior Centres and Hospice Palliative Care homes where batches of our Healing Hippos are delivered to a coordinator who arranges with the nursing and volunteer staff to distribute them to patients.
Buttercup inspires courage and hope in people of all ages and provides a much needed distraction to any discomfort they may be experiencing.
Also, with the help of Caregivers, we can package our Healing Hippos and send them to private homes with our message of hope.
